Women's Riding School is Unqiue and Fun

The Women’s Riding School track day teaches smooth riding that emphasizes fun and skill over speed. The school is unique in welcoming all styles of motorcycles and in their girls-only approach. For many, riding with other women is less intimidating and the concentration of competent, highly skilled female riders builds confidence.

This year, the Women’s Riding School track day is Friday July 23rd at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon NH.

The school makes it easy to find other women at your skill level and bond. A Meet-and-Greet the night before the track day gives students a chance to meet instructors and other students and rid themselves of the first day of school jitters. This year’s Meet-and-Greet is sponsored by Cyclwise-Ducati Vermont of New Haven and will have food, prizes and giveaways.

The WRS track day is broken into 20 minute sessions that rotate between riding on-track, classroom lecture and time with your instructor. Classroom instruction breaks skills into chunks that you concentrate on in the next on-track session. After each session, you get instructor feedback and ask questions.

Preparing your bike is easy. This rider tapes her head light.
You do not need a sportbike to ride and preparing your bike is simple. WRS has a checklist on their web site and your local mechanic can help evaluate your bike to make sure it’s ready. The WRS instructors will inspect your bike before the first track session to ensure you meet the safety standards. If you would rather not use your own bike, Ducati rentals are available.

The school emphasizes safety and you need proper riding gear. A full face helmet, riding jacket with armor, riding pants (not chaps), boots and gauntlet style motorcycle gloves are required. Cordura touring suits are acceptable. Back protectors are recommended, but not required.

In addition to the on-track sessions, Green Mountain Motorcycle Road Riding is running infield drills to teach slow speed turns, quick stops and swerves. On Saturday, GMMRR is running a half-dyay skills tour to teach street riding skills. The tour gives another perspective to the curriculum taught in MSF classes and the bike handling learned on the track. The tour is open to WRS participants and their guests.

WRS is partnering with Penguin Road Racing to provide the instruction. Penguin is the oldest motorcycle road racing school in the country. Kawasaki USA is a sponsor of the event. Cost of the track day is $280 and includes the Meet-and-Greet event. To register, see the Women’s Riding School web site.

It could be the most fun you ever have on a motorcycle.
